Vision and Mission:

The Aloha Forest Vision is to bring together all our communities and landowners in Hawaiʻi to enter a new paradigm of community food systems stewardship—uniting our families, community leaders, elders, and youth on a shared voyage to rebuild the food forests, fishponds, coconut groves, and medicine forests of our ancestors. This is a step toward living in harmony with our ʻāina, becoming one heart and one mind in loving our land. Our prayer is a return to living subsistence urban food forests within every community on every island.

What is the Aloha Forest coalition?

Aloha forest is a urban forest restoration coalition created to connect the like minded & like hearted people, organizations, and nations of the earth in creating community stakeholder-ship in urban food forest systems, that bring together expertise and knowledge to empower communities to build capacity to plant 1 million trees in Hawai’i over the next 25 years. our mission is restore native forests through harnessing the collective power of individual contribution, we are setting out to build and restore relationships through planting trees.

Are you ready to join the coalition and help us plant a tree?

Project Reforest Maui

The southern slopes of Maui were once a legendary forest. Home to the great Kalai Waʻa (canoe makers), Kahikinui once produced some of the finest Koa trees on the planet. The southern exposure would give the mountain giants the optimal sunlight; The wet yet constant wind would ensure the perfect balance of moisture in the upper forest.

As it stands in 2019 we have 3% of our native forest cover left on the southern slope.

We now  home to one of  the largest endangered species events on the planet.

The Problem:

Native forest in Hawai’i are in dire need of restoration, the Hawaiian people have yet to have general access to land; let alone the equity to be active in conservation of our own land. Current conservation is grant driven and limited, typically organization plant between 6000-12000 trees an anum.

Tourism is stagnant, people are moving towards more meaningful travel experiences.

Funding for conservation is on a decline, 2020 proposed budget for public lands funding will drop by 14%.

The Solution:

Restore native forest with a web based tree sponsorship program.

Empower communities to restore their native ecosystems.

Create monument of living forest and synergy behind reforestation through blending technology, immersive storytelling, and conservation.

Our Community

Our team consist of driven community members looking to build a home for their culture again. Restoring forest and native food sources is the first stem to returning native culture and community to the island. Assisting in this project will assist in rebuilding, protecting and nurturing future Hawaiian culture.
